Teresa Rider is
a part time Age Group Triathlete who has competed
in the sport of triathlon for the past 13 years. Her
forte being the grueling Ironman distance of a 3.8k
swim, 180k cycle and 42.2k run.
Training for triathlon’s
three consecutive disciplines, swim, cycle and
run, typically consumes 27 hours of Teresa's week. It
involves pool or ocean swimming, long hours on
the bike and running endless loops or beach-side
trails. She also has to incorporate core
strength, massage and stretching sessions which
assist her body in meeting the training demands.
In 2006, Teresa quit her corporate
job to embark on a new career in health. It
would also free up some time to enable her to continue
training for triathlon. It’s a sport
she is passionate about and which is quickly becoming
one of the world’s fastest growing sports.
Teresa is usually located in Sydney,
Australia, a country which boasts the outdoor life
and warm, sunny weather. However, she is relocating
to the mountainous terrain of Boulder, Colorado USA
where the fresh air and high altitude makes for great
race conditioning.
Her goal for 2007 is to defend
her title of Age Group Ironman World Champion in
Hawaii and to pick up a few other titles along the
way. From her base in Boulder, she will travel
to South America to compete in the Brazil Ironman
and depending on her race schedule, compete in some
half ironman events around the US in preparation
for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on
13 October 2007.
Teresa’s training season
will kick off with a 10 day camp in California during
March and from there she will head out to Boulder
to continue her training.
At this time in her career, Teresa
mostly competes in the World Triathlon Corporation
(WTC) ironman and half ironman distance events.
Her aim is to pursue this lifestyle
which has given her excellent health, wonderful experiences
and the confidence to take up any challenge which
may come her way.
